7th Grade Achievement Tests are Next Week! And Stax House claims 3rd Quarter!

On Friday, our 7th graders returned from an enjoyable visit to New Orleans. They traveled on a riverboat, went on a swamp tour, visited the Battle of New Orleans battlefield, viewed Mardis Gras floats in various phases of construction, sang Karaoke, roller skated, and ate lots of delicious food. They arrived back in Memphis on Friday night, just in time to head of for a restful spring break.

The week of our return our 7th graders will take their achievement tests. The test is spread over two days, with students testing through the morning blocks on Wednesday and Thursday (March 22 and 23). To avoid brain fatigue in classes, we have tweaked their schedules. During their afternoon class block on Wednesday, instead of going to a class they will be participating in an afternoon of service. Parents should have received an email about this, asking for a $5 contribution if possible to help offset our supply cost. The kids will be working with their hands and making small Easter presents for our neighbors at Town Village Retirement Home. We could use a few parent volunteers to help with this afternoon, from about 1:00-2:30. If you're available, please email Dr. Frizzell. On Thursday following the conclusion of the tests, students will go to their normal, 6th period elective block. This means your students will not see their Core Content Area teachers in a classroom setting Wednesday or Thursday; we hope this break will not only provide a service opportunity, but also allow them to give the achievement tests their full attention.

As a heads up, 8th graders will be taking their achievement tests the following Wednesday and Thursday (March 29 and 30) following an identical schedule.

Finally, congrats are in order to Stax House for winning the 3rd quarter. They will be treated to a reward Friday, March 24. Stax becomes the third different House to win a quarter this year, joining Church and Wells. They held off a surging Grit 'n' Grind House. Now we'll see who takes the fourth quarter, and who has accumulated the most points this year and will win the year-long House Cup competition.
