Ride Waiting

Pricing􏰀

1)From 2:50 to 4:00 p.m. Ride Waiting is a free service.

2)Beginning at 4:00 p.m., there is a charge for Ride Waiting. Parents may pay an annual subscription for $500, or they may pay a daily drop-in rate of $5. The drop-in rate is charged of all students still in Ride Waiting at 4:01 p.m., regardless of how much longer they stay.

3)Student attendance in Ride Waiting will be monitored and recorded, with all billing information then forwarded to the Business Office to be added to a parent’s account.

4) Athletes waiting for Harding sports practices are not charged for using Ride Waiting as long as their name appears on the most current roster for their team.

* Note: The cell phone signal is occasionally weak in the general area around Harding Academy (e.g., it might take 5 minutes or more for a text to be delivered). Please make all plans and arrangements and communicate them with your parent(s) before the end of the school day.

Procedures

• At the end of the school day, students have approximately 20 minutes to leave campus or go to a designated school-related practice or extracurricular activity.

• After 2:50 p.m. students are not permitted to be in the halls, unless they are accompanied by a supervising teacher or parent.

• After 2:45 p.m. students must go immediately to the middle school hallway (west side of campus) and enter the appropriate classroom where Ride Waiting is located.

Girls will report to Room 2, and boys should report to Room 1.

• Students must sign in with the Ride Waiting coordinator, (failure on the student’s part to sign out could result in being billed for time not actually spent in Ride Waiting).

• Students must take care of all needs before arriving, including going to the restroom and lockers. Generally, students must wait until 4:00 p.m. before being permitted to leave Ride Waiting to go to the restroom. Students may not be allowed to leave the classroom at all, except for emergencies.

• Individual Ride Waiting teacher’s classroom rules may vary; however, the following are general rules for all students:

  1. 1)  Prepare ahead of time and bring all needed materials for the duration of Ride Waiting.

  2. 2)  Enter the appropriate room quietly between 2:45 and 2:50 p.m. and sit down.

  3. 3)  Stay seated, work independently, and work quietly.

  4. 4)  Keep all food and drink in your backpack unless the teacher tells you otherwise.

  5. 5)  If you have a cell phone, keep it on silent/vibrate and place it on your desk and visible so that your parents can text you when they arrive.

  6. 6)  Pick up is at the exterior doors at the north end of the middle school hallway. These doors will remained locked, so parents must send students a text or email, or knock on the door􏰀 when they arrive.

Expectations

Students are expected to listen and follow directions given by the teacher supervising Ride Waiting. Additionally, they are expected to follow the procedures described above all year. Parents are expected to provide transportation for their student(s). After 5:30, remaining students will have to wait outside the front door and will not be supervised.

Consequences

Any student who does not follow the above procedures will be disciplined as detailed below. Teachers will send a list of all students who arrive after 3:00 p.m. without an excused note or email from another teacher to the upper school administrators. Students who are habitually late are subject to these same consequences.

  • ●  Warning

  • ●  Referral to principal; parents will be notified later

  • ●  Telephone call to parents

  • ●  Afternoon detention

  • ●  Recommendation to Saturday detention

  • ●  Recommendation for dismissal from Ride Waiting: any student who displays defiance or repeatedly fails to follow procedures may be refused entry for the remainder of the school year at the expense of the parent. When a student loses the privilege of being in Ride Waiting, the parent must arrange for transportation no later than 2:45 p.m.

Final Note

Harding Academy values student security and safety. Students should have parent permission before riding with another adult or leaving to go to an event during Ride Waiting.
